If we see how popular the Hollywood actors/actresses with their private websites, such as Britney Spears with her www.britney.com, or Mandy Moore with her www.mandymoore.com, sometimes we imagine when we will own a private website. We always think, it’ll cost so expensive to own a private web if we ask somebody else to design it. Even if we design it by ourselves, we need more time to learn about Microsoft FrontPage, which must be very difficult to be learned, especially for the inexperienced one.
For those doubts, there’s a new dawn for the people who wants to design and own a private website and costs not more than $0 or Rp 0. We can use the services which are offered by several Free Web Services, such as in multiply.com, blogspot.com and wordpress.com. Those free web services, serve us the best way to own a private web. We just have to sign up, and follow a free registration. After finishing the registration, we can sign in to our private web. The next thing that we have to do is designing, and decorating our private web. We can complete our web with photographs, music, videos, links to another webs, and our opinions, ideas about something in articles or even our curriculum vitae.
One of the examples is my private website at multiply.com. This web is created when I was in my year eleven. This web consists of several articles, and opinions of mine. I also upload a music video and several links to another websites, such as ww.celinedion.com and www.thebigview.com. For more information, you can visit princefaddern.multiply.com.
Like I say at the previous paragraphs, it’s so easy to design a private free web in multiply.com. First we have to visit www.multiply.com, and then find the sign up, fill the registration form. Don’t forget to write your e-mail address within. After all, you should open your e-mail account. The verification of the registration will be sent to your e-mail inbox. You should verify your account name in multiply.com. Since you’ve verified your account name, you’ll be brought by the webmaster to the main page of your page.
The main page offers some menus, such as at the right side of the page (under the avatar/headshot), customize my site, and click it. Then you’ll find some yellowish menus such as choose theme, page layouts, edit title, edit welcome box and edit headshot.
If you are a new user (especially inexperienced one), It’ be better if you choose the available theme. You can click the choose theme, then pick one of the available themes, automatically the theme will be changed. If you want to change your private web layout, you can choose the page layouts, and then you can choose the layout just like what you want. To edit the title of your private (for example: Michael’s Site), you can choose, the edit title option. Then you can edit it; do the same thing to edit the welcome box. In the welcome box, you can write greetings, or say hello to the visitors. To change the headshot, you should click edit headshot, and then browse the photo that you want.
To upload photos, videos, music, links, reviews, new agendas, you can click post (right top corner of your site). There’ll be several options such as:
Just select the icon if you want to post something. For example, to post a link, click the link icon. Then the input box will appear, you should write the URL address, for example, www.mandymoore.com. Click OK, then fill the title (Website of Mandy Moore), description (My Favourite Actress’s Site), you can also choose the access (whether you want this link can be seen by the visitors or yourself only or your contacts only) after you fill all of the description, click save and publish.
To upload video, you can select the certain option that you want. It can be browse the video (must be flv file) from your computer, or imported from youtube.com. For the computer files, you just have to click browse, then choose the video you want, then click upload video file. To upload from youtube.com, you can click import videos youtube.com.
Fill the URL address, for example the URL address of a video in youtube.com (Switchfoot_Only Hope: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d27gTbWPlVA). Then click OK. The uploading process will take automatically.
From the explanations above, we can conclude that designing a private web site using the Free Web Service is very easy, costs no rupiah, and believe or not, we can soar our capability in the virtual world by designing our own private web, because indirectly, we learn more about it each time we open, redecorate, or reedit our private website.
